Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

A humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Gaza. Humanitarian aid to the region has been severely restricted, and people in Gaza are in dire need of medical supplies, food, clean drinking water, and more, as bombardments continue to threaten civilians’ lives and wellbeing.

Though they make up only 5% of the population, older Gazans have been especially devastated by the effects of treatment deprivation, starvation, and upheaval from their homes.  According to Euro-Med Monitor, an independent, nonprofit organization for the protection of human rights, nearly 1 in 10 people killed in Gaza so far have been older people. We must act now to support one of Gaza’s most vulnerable populations.

How We’re Helping

HelpAge has partnered with longstanding local humanitarian partners in the region, including Juzoor for Health and Social Development, to deliver vital aid to older Gazans and their families and scale up our aid as quickly as possible.

Juzoor for Health and Social Development, a Ramallah-based non-profit, is on the ground providing support in temporary shelters, seeking to address the needs of older people.

“For those older individuals who have survived and been displaced by the conflict, their living conditions are nothing short of miserable. They have sought refuge in schools and hospital courtyards, where they are confronted with dire challenges and are struggling to meet their most basic needs, such as food, clean water, and essential medications.”
