From meeting in a laundromat for seven years to gathering weekly at one of their town’s most popular tourist attractions, Minnedosa Men’s Shed in Minnedosa, MB, has been going strong for nearly a decade. The town’s Heritage Village, a pioneer village that boats nine restored heritage buildings, is the new gathering spot for this active group of men, and the group couldn’t be happier to have landed such a stellar meeting spot:
“We were looking for a place to have their meetings and we decided to open a third of the building at Heritage Village for the Men’s Shed. It was a perfect fit for everyone – from the location to the size and parking, everything was a good fit.”
Over a dozen members meet every Tuesday afternoon to help their community with new projects to tackle. They make planters for care homes, repair bicycles, take on woodworking projects, and so much more – it’s safe to say the Shed is always buzzing with activity, and the men are happy to help each other and their community!
One project the group takes great pride in is their birdhouse kits. The men host workdays to craft all the parts needed for these birdhouses and invite local children to join them in assembling the birdhouses. As a finishing touch, the men carefully stamp the Minnedosa Men’s Shed logo on each and every birdhouse.
To members of the Minnedosa Men’s Shed, Tuesdays are more than just a couple hours to pick up a hammer or a screwdriver – it’s a chance for men who otherwise might not put themselves out there to get out of the house. We can’t wait to see what they get up to next!
