In the past five years alone, HelpAge Canada has provided over $2,000,000 to local community organizations who are contributing to the wellness of older people
More than 8,500 underserved older Canadians have directly benefited from HelpAge Canada’s support to date
HelpAge Canada works with a network of over 2,500 CBSS organizations worldwide to deliver innovative programs, vital services, and humanitarian aid to older adults
We believe older people deserve rights and respect, and should be able to age on their own terms, with purpose, choice, and belonging. Ageing with dignity means ensuring older people remain active participants in shaping their communities, programs, systems, and policies that affect their lives.
Who We Are, What We Do
We bring people together, building partnerships, shaping policy, and sharing ideas to drive change.
We focus on three core impact areas affecting older adults:
- Social Development
- Economic Well-Being
- Safeguarding Against Ageism, Neglect, and Abuse

Celebrating 50 Years of Impact
For 50 years, HelpAge Canada has stood alongside older people through the power of local partnerships. Whether here in Canada or around the world, we partner with trusted community organizations to help older people age with dignity.
As we celebrate our 50th Anniversary and look to the next 50 years, let’s honour the strength, wisdom, and contributions of older people everywhere, and the communities that support them.
Thank you for being part of this shared journey to shape the future of ageing. Let’s keep going, together.

Key Factors & Trends Affecting Older Adults
Demographic Realities

By 2030, Canada will be a “super-aged” country, with 1 in 5 people over 65, translating to over 10 million older adults.

Older adults are living longer but facing widening disparities in income, access to care, and social inclusion.

The fastest-growing demographic is people over 85, the majority of whom are women.

Globally, two-thirds of older people live in low to middle-income countries.
Economic Realities

1 in 4 Canadians 50+ have household incomes that are not adequate to meet their current, let alone long-term, needs

Only 34% of Canadians 50+ who would like to retire feel financially prepared to retire when they want.

1 in 5 Canadians 50+ likely have a poverty-level standard of living.

Economic well-being for older adults involves continued work addressing income inequality, financial literacy, and providing community-based programs, services, and referrals.
Let's Work Together
We believe a better future for ageing is possible yet we can’t do it alone. Whether it’s partnering or supporting this important work, let’s build a future where all older persons can lead secure, healthy, active, and dignified lives.
