Today, I embark on a monitoring trip to Africa, visiting Ethiopia and Kenya for 5 weeks. In Ethiopia I will be visiting our HelpAge International and Global Affairs Canada project serving over 52,000 older persons and people with disabilities in seven refugee camps in Gambella. In Kenya, I will be visiting our Sponsor A Grandparent partner Caring Organization, Joot Social Services in Kisumu. In both countries I will be visiting HelpAge International Sponsor A Grandparent communities and convening meetings with our Canadian embassies and other NGOs. I can’t believe the day has arrived! I am excited but a little anxious – going to miss my family!
I will arrive in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and travel to Gambella where I will be for a few days including October 1st, the International Day of Older Persons. I depart for Kenya on the 7th of October.
I am going to do my best to narrate my experiences each day with photos and videos, and I’ll do my best to be as current as possible. Stay tuned, and comments are most welcome!
See you after Thanksgiving!
