HelpAge Canada empowers and assists older persons in Africa in a variety of ways. For instance, through our Sponsor a Grandparent program, we contribute to providing food, medicine and other basic essentials to disadvantaged and vulnerable older persons in Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In partnership with local organizations, HelpAge Canada works to overcome challenges related to extreme poverty, lack of access to health services and natural disasters such as tropical storms.
Our Sponsor a Grandparent program helps to provide basic necessities to vulnerable older persons in Jamaica, Dominica, Grenada and Haiti.
South Asia and South East Asia
HelpAge Canada sponsors individuals in India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. Organized by Help Age India, our eye clinics have provided cataract surgeries to over 3,000 older persons.
The top priority of HelpAge’s work in Canada is addressing social isolation and vulnerable seniors. An estimated 7.4 million Canadian (21% of the population ) are over 60 years of age. By 2041, seniors are projected to make up 24.5% of the Canadian population. The life expectancy of Canadian seniors is 81 years.
