Current Global Response Campaigns
Ethiopia
In partnership with HelpAge International and Global Affairs Canada, HelpAge Canada is providing a tailored and integrated response to address the health, nutrition, protection, and inclusion needs of older people and people with disabilities in the Gambella region of Ethiopia.
Ukraine
On February 24, 2022, Russian forces invaded Ukraine. Over 8 million people have been displaced, and a significant number of those who have fled their homes are older people. We deliver humanitarian relief to thousands of older Ukrainians and their families with our partner, HelpAge International.
Gaza
A humanitarian crisis is unfolding in Gaza. Humanitarian aid to the region has been severely restricted, and people in Gaza are in dire need of medical supplies, food, clean drinking water, and more, as bombardments continue to threaten civilians’ lives and well-being.
Lebanon
Nearly 180,000 people are now living in temporary shelters across Lebanon, many of which do not have basic supplies and proper facilities for cooking and hygiene. The situation is especially dire for older people, and support now is invaluable in helping to address urgent needs.

Shaping the Future: A National Forum's Call to Action to Eliminating Ageism in Care and Support
In June 2024, a half day forum on “Ageism and Health Care, Community Care, and Support” was hosted in Ottawa, Ontario by the Canadian Coalition Against Ageism, International Longevity Centre Canada, United Way British Columbia, and Ageism Forum Planning Partners. The forum brought together a diverse group of participants to discuss ageism, including older persons, researchers, health care professionals, and community organizations.
Homesharing: Housing That Connects Us
Today, there is a resurgence of interest in home sharing, due to the joint crises of isolation and housing affordability. This study digs into the roots of home sharing, highlighting the lessons learned, exploring where new shoots are beginning to develop, and recommending ways in which they can be nurtured.
Report on the 2024 CBSS Sector Summit
This report provides background on the CBSS sector in Canada and the events that led to the development of a national CBSS Sector Summit. The Summit brought together CBSS organizations to engage on the sector’s needs, priorities, and goals, and this report summarizes what was shared, highlighting the resounding enthusiasm communities expressed to unite and take a more coordinated approach to solidifying the important role that CBSS organizations play in supporting healthy aging in Canada.
The Impact of the Community-Based Seniors’ Services (CBSS) Sector on Older Adults in Canada: A Scoping Review
This scoping review conducted by HelpAge Canada with review from the National Institute on Ageing analyzed themes across seventy-seven sources about community-based seniors’ services in Canada. Its policy recommendations emphasize the importance of standardized funding, clear national standards, and age-friendly and social prescribing initiatives to foster the growth and development of the CBSS sector to meet the diverse needs of older adults across Canada.
Healthy Aging CORE Canada
Healthy Aging CORE (Collaborative Online Resources and Education) is a platform to connect local, regional, provincial, and national non-profit, government, and academic organizations and coalitions that focus on programs, services, policies, practices, and research aimed at supporting older Canadians to age in place in their homes and communities. Membership is free, and the online hub provides discussion groups, information on the latest funding opportunities, and online events for CBSS organizations in Canada.
