Policy rooted in community. Powered by connection.

HelpAge Canada drives policy change by working collaboratively with older people, community-based organizations, researchers, and decision-makers across all levels of government in Canada and globally. Our approach is grounded in listening and learning from lived experience, then bridging and connecting that insight to meaningful policy and systems change.

Together with cross-sector partners and in-house policy expertise, we:

  • Build partnerships with governments and cross-sector leaders through sponsored initiatives and roundtable discussions
  • Lead proactive and responsive government relations sessions
  • Coordinate working groups shaping civil social policy on ageing
  • Amplify local and global perspectives to influence international frameworks
  • Partner on global policy action with HelpAge International and at home with our strategic partner, International Longevity Centre Canada.
  • Participate in and host United Nations events to share Canada’s community-led approaches and advocate for the global human rights of older people

HelpAge Canada, with International Longevity Centre Canada, proudly hosted the United Nations High-Level Political Forum side event in New York, “The Intersectionality of Ageism and Sexism: Harnessing the Power of Older Women.” The event featured global experts and advocates who explored how gendered ageism shapes poverty, access to justice, caregiving burdens, and even climate vulnerability.
