On May 26 and 27 this week, Felicity Watson, Lead, Canadian Programs, was in Regina as HelpAge Canada co-hosted Advancing a Community-Based Seniors’ Services (CBSS) Sector in Saskatchewan: An Ideas Exchange and Workshop, in partnership with Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism.

This two-part virtual and in-person event, welcomed diverse voices and perspectives from across the province, part of HelpAge Canada’s continuing consultations across the country.

Sharing Challenges and Opportunities in Supporting Older Adults in Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan events brought together community leaders, service providers, system partners, and older people, to:

• Share insights on the needs of older adults
• Contribute to dynamic, solutions-focused conversations
• Co-develop ideas that will help shape the Saskatchewan CBSS landscape

Both events also featured regional findings from the National Institute on Ageing’s 2024 Ageing in Canada Survey, presented by Natalie Iciaszczyk and Liz McGuire, PMP.

Building a Recognized Pan-Canadian Community-Based Seniors’ Services Sector

Insights gathered at community consultation events, will help shape HelpAge Canada programming and the much-anticipated June 2026 Pan-Canadian CBSS Sector Summit. Our commitment is stronger than ever to co-create and coordinate a much-needed pan-Canadian CBSS sector – by community, for community – one that recognizes and fuels the vital work of local CBSS organizations and empowers all older people in Canada to age well in the communities they call home.

HelpAge Canada is grateful to Saskatchewan event partners Holly Schick and Randy Dove of the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism for their leadership, and to Karen McDonald, Co-chair of the HelpAge Canada Interim CBSS Leadership Council, for joining the virtual session and helping to advance the pan-Canadian CBSS dialogue.

We are building this amazing CBSS sector together – thank you to everyone who participated, shared, and led.
