HelpAge Canada CEO, Kahir Lalji, is in Winnipeg, Manitoba, meeting with Connie Newman, Executive Director of the Manitoba Association of Senior Communities, and the Honourable Uzoma Asagwara, Manitoba’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Seniors, and Long-Term Care.

Together, they discussed and acknowledged the incredible work of so many community-based organizations providing essential programs and services to older Manitobans. They explored ways to connect, convene, coordinate, and bolster these efforts, ensuring that older people across Manitoba have access to the services and supports they need to thrive.

At HelpAge Canada, we are working alongside community partners across Canada to build out provincial Community-Based Seniors’ Services (CBSS) sectors, as well as a unified Canada-wide CBSS sector. Kahir says, “By strengthening these networks, we are advancing a future where older people can age with dignity in their own communities—For Community, By Community.”

We are grateful to Minister Asagwara for their leadership in advancing seniors’ care and community-based services in Manitoba, and to Connie Newman for her dedication to empowering older adults and strengthening the services that support them.

HelpAge Canada believes partnership and collaboration are key at all levels to ensure that older people can age with dignity, respect, and the services they need.
