An increase in your monthly contribution helps keep benefits consistent around the world.

Inflation in the countries where we work and the eroding purchasing power of sponsorship dollars make it hard to deliver a consistent level of assistance to grandparents around the world. An increase of a few dollars in your monthly contribution will help us keep benefits strong for all our seniors in the sponsorship program, including your sponsored grandparent, regardless of variations in local economies. With your support, sponsored Grandparents in HelpAge Canada programs can meet their daily needs and live secure healthy lives with dignity.

Virginia Yachette

Birthday: July 2, 1947

Country: Dominica

A native to Dominica, Virginia is a single woman who is 70 years old. Although she has one daughter and two sons, they are poor themselves and unable to support their mother. Virginia speaks, reads, and writes English.

In her younger days Virginia worked hard to help support her family by labouring as a housekeeper. She was a valuable member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society and strove compassionately to assist others in need. A humble and prayerful person, she could be depended upon to meticulously clean and polish the sacred vessels at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Virginia’s life changed drastically several years ago when she suffered a stroke. Even though she has shown some recovery, she has been unable to return to her active community life and in many respects remains house bound. Friends, church members, and neighbours visit her weekly –in her home that was severely damaged by Hurricane Maria –to keep her company and help her with household tasks.

Sponsorship for Virginia will assist in the provision of food, medication, and many other items of basic need. Just as importantly, your assistance will let her know that someone cares. Thank you so much.
