Mary Aoko Akiri

Mary Aoko Akiri

COUNTRY:  Kenya

Mary is a widow who is approximately 74 years old. Of her five children, two daughters are still living. She is fortunate to have an extended family which includes two sisters and one brother. Mary speaks Luo.

In her younger days Mary worked hard to help provide for her family by farming maize. Currently she sustains a meager existence by gardening. Two years ago she broke her hand. Because she did not have the funds to go to a bigger hospital, it was treated locally and, unfortunately, did not heal properly. Without the complete use of her hand, Mary is unable to farm extensively, and that has been reflected in her income as well as her food supply.

Mary is a sweet Grannie who feels fortunate that, other than her hand, she is in relatively good health. Sustained by her faith, she enjoys singing praise songs as she weaves baskets.

Sponsorship for Mary will assist in the regular provision of food, clothing, and medical care. Just as importantly, she will know that someone cares.
