Kenya Gifts

The Kenya Gifts program is a HelpAge Canada program designed to support older people in the community of Ahero, Kenya. The program seeks to develop the Ahero economy, and provide support and income to impoverished older people in western Kenya. The gifts, ranging in price from $45 for a Chicken & Rooster to $400 for a Cow, the Kenya gifts make life easier for the lucky Kenyans who receive them. Items available for purchase include everything from housing units to mosquito nets.

HelpAge Canada works with our partner Joot Social Services in Ahero to deliver the items to those that need them. In short, if you buy a chicken, a needy older person in Kenya will be getting a chicken.

Each animal or household item will be bought in the Nyando District in western Kenya by our partner Joot Social Services. However, the actual number of items delivered is determined by community needs. Therefore, it is possible that HelpAge Canada could end up with more of a particular animal or item than we can reasonably and responsibly distribute. When more livestock items are purchased than the community can safely maintain, HelpAge Canada ensures the funds are used to support similar programs run by our local partners to help those who need it most.
